Combinations
Combinations say which kinds of discount yours is allowed to run alongside. They do not decide which discount actually applies to a cart — Shopify does that.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”Every discount carries three permissions: may it combine with product discounts, with order discounts, with shipping discounts. You set them on the discount; Shopify enforces them.
Leave all three off and the discount stands alone. Tick a box and you are telling Shopify this discount may run alongside that kind — not that it will.
Nothing on this card predicts an outcome. When two discounts could both apply, Shopify picks, and the app does not guess on its behalf.
Where it is
Section titled “Where it is”The Discount can be combined with: card, on every discount page, below the discount’s own configuration.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”Product discounts
Section titled “Product discounts”Allows this discount to run alongside discounts that take money off items.
When an order percentage and a product discount land on the same cart, what the percentage is calculated on depends on the discount type:
- Order discount and Multi-offer — the Calculate after product discounts switch decides whether the percentage comes off the cart total after product discounts (on, the default for new discounts) or off the full cart total before them (off). See Order discount and Multi-offer.
- Custom Discount — after product discounts, unless the order offer has a cap or a cart value limit, or the discount uses Apply all matching discounts with more than one order offer. See Custom Discount.
On Multi-offer and Custom Discount, the discount’s own product offers apply together with its order offers whether or not this box is ticked.
Order discounts
Section titled “Order discounts”Allows this discount to run alongside discounts that take money off the order total.
Shipping discounts
Section titled “Shipping discounts”Allows this discount to run alongside discounts that take money off delivery.
Below the three ticks, Tags labels the discount. Type a tag in Add a tag and press Add or Enter; each tag shows as a chip you can remove. The help text reads “Find this discount by tag later.”
- Up to 20 tags, each up to 255 characters. Spaces and punctuation are allowed.
- Tags are case-sensitive: “VIP” and “vip” are two tags. Adding the same tag twice keeps one.
- Tags are saved on the discount in Shopify. Removing the last tag in the app clears them there.
- Tags you add or remove in Shopify’s own discount editor do not show in the app, and the next save from the app replaces them with the app’s list.
- A duplicate keeps the tags.
- The Summary shows a Tags row: your tags, or “Not set”.
Two tags change what the storefront data publishes: an automatic discount tagged dos:unpublish
is left out, and a code discount is included only when tagged dos:publish. See
Storefront data.
Stack with product discounts tagged
Section titled “Stack with product discounts tagged”Shopify Plus only, and only while Product discounts is ticked. Product discounts that share one of these tags can apply to the same item; the help text reads “Product discounts that share one of these tags can apply to the same item.” Shopify applies two discounts together only when each one allows a tag the other one carries. Same limits as Tags.
- Not on Plus, the card shows “Stacking two product discounts on one item is available on Shopify Plus.” instead.
- Unticking Product discounts clears the stacking tags.
- The stacking tags are also added to the discount’s tags in Shopify.
The warnings
Section titled “The warnings”More than one box ticked. The card adds:
Some combinations can result in large discounts. Test a few combinations. If the total discount is too large, adjust which discounts can combine.
with a Learn more link to Shopify’s own page on combining discounts.
A conflict with a discount that is already live. This warning appears on Spend More Save More only. Where the app can see a conflict, it names the discount:
Another active discount doesn’t combine with this offer — one of them may not apply:
followed by the discount’s title, marked “(in this app)” or “(from another app)”. Up to three are listed, then “…and 2 more.” If your store has more active discounts than the app checks at once, it says so too.
Neither warning blocks Save.

Section titled “Limits and notes”- Three choices, on every discount type. They are independent — tick any combination of them.
- Combinations are Shopify’s call. Ticking a box grants permission; Shopify decides what actually applies to a given cart.
- Combining several kinds can add up to a large total. Build a test cart that triggers all of them before you turn a stacked set loose.
- The card never blocks Save, whatever it warns about.
- The live-discount conflict warning is on Spend More Save More only. On the other discount types the card does not check your live discounts.
- The list page’s Combines With column shows the same three permissions as badges, so you can scan every discount at once.
